Book Drive

On April 4th, 2023, the Kenya National Library Service (KNLS) joined forces with Book Aid International, Spotlight Publishers, and RTI to donate 2550 books to the One Million Tana River Maktaba Drive. This partnership between KNLS and the 1 Million Maktaba Book Drive is a significant step towards promoting access to books and encouraging a reading culture in Kenya.

The One Million Maktaba Book Drive, spearheaded by Mwanaisha Chidzuga, aims to collect one million books to be distributed to schools, libraries, and community centers throughout Kenya. This collaborative effort between KNLS and the initiative will provide an opportunity for people in both rural and urban areas to access books and engage in thoughtful conversations on various issues affecting their communities.

By partnering with Book Aid International, Spotlight Publishers, and RTI, KNLS is making a positive impact on literacy and education in Kenya. This donation of 2550 books is just the beginning of the collective efforts to promote reading and foster a culture of knowledge and learning in the country.

“We are excited to collaborate with the One Million Maktaba Book Drive and contribute to the promotion of reading in Kenya,” said a Madam Jullie Musando, Deputy Director from KNLS. “Access to books is essential for personal growth and community development. Through this partnership, we aim to make books more accessible to people across the country, regardless of their location.” She concluded.

The donation of books to the One Million Tana River Maktaba Drive is a testament to the commitment of KNLS and its partners to promote reading and encourage thoughtful conversations in Kenyan communities.
