Internship programme

Internship in knls is a planned and structured programme that provides work experience for a specific period of time. It is directed at young people who have completed their college/university studies and are unemployed. It is a practical programme meant to develop and prepare the interns for registration with their respective professional bodies and future appointment in the labour market.

Objectives

  • Enhance youth development and employability by linking education, training and work.
  • Provide hands-on experience that builds on classroom learning.
  • Support professional registration requirements where internship is required.
  • Develop a culture of lifelong learning, positive work habits and attitudes.
  • Establish a supply pipeline of skills to the labour market.

Eligibility and duration

  • Open to unemployed Kenyan graduates from training institutions who have completed degree or diploma courses.
  • Also open to graduates for whom internship is a requirement for registration by professional bodies.
  • Internship is undertaken only once after graduation.
  • The internship period is up to three (3) months, or the duration prescribed by the relevant professional body.

Selection criteria

  • Merit and discipline.
  • Age: 18-35 years.
  • Gender consideration, ethnic and geographical representation.
  • Disability status, minority and marginalized status.

KNLS is not under obligation to employ interns after completion of the internship programme.

Attachment requirements

KNLS offers industrial attachment opportunities for students who have not completed their coursework in different KNLS settings.

  • The student must be in session
  • A letter from the institution is mandatory
  • The student must not have been attached before within knls
  • The attachment period is strictly three (3) months
  • Must have a life insurance cover
  • Must pay a registration fee of Ksh 500
