ISBN and publishing

How do I make a manual ISBN payment?

To manually pay for an ISBN, follow these steps:

Include your full name, postal address, postal code, town, email address, and telephone number.

What are the current ISBN prices?
  • Single ISBN: KSh 1,500
  • 10 ISBNs: KSh 10,000
  • 100 ISBNs: KSh 50,000
  • 1,000 ISBNs: KSh 100,000
Can I apply for another ISBN if I have not used the previous one?

No. You must exhaust all previously issued ISBNs before applying for new ones. The system will display an error if you try to purchase more ISBNs before using the existing ones.

Where can I apply for an ISBN online?

Apply through the ISBN Application Portal.

Is there an ISBN tutorial I can watch?

Yes. Watch the ISBN video tutorial on YouTube.

Should I buy a new ISBN for the same title written in another language?

Yes. A translated version is considered a different edition and must be assigned a new ISBN.

Library access and services

How do I log in to the KNLS Virtual Library (VTABU)?
  1. Visit the VTABU Portal.
  2. Select Login/Register.
  3. You will be redirected to eCitizen.
  4. Log in to your eCitizen account and continue.
  5. If you are a first-time user, complete the registration form.
Can I bring my own laptop to the library?

Yes. You may bring a personal laptop, but you must check the device in and out at the security desk. The KNLS Bring Your Own Device and Acceptable Use policies apply.

What are the library access fees via eCitizen?
  • Adult daily access fee: KSh 20
  • eCitizen convenience fee: KSh 5
  • Total payable: KSh 25

Pay through eCitizen using Paybill 222222 and Account Name NASD.

How do I pay the library entrance fee via eCitizen?

Use the KNLS Library Access Payment service on eCitizen.

What are the library opening hours?
  • Monday-Friday: 8:00 a.m.-6:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
  • Closed on Sundays and public holidays.
Are internet services available at KNLS libraries?

Yes. Free wireless internet is available during regular service hours. The KNLS Acceptable Use Policy applies.

Are there computers I can use in the library?

Yes. KNLS libraries have computer labs for patrons. Users must follow the policies governing library computing resources, act responsibly when using shared computers and networks, and ask a librarian for assistance when needed.

Does the library have discussion spaces?

Yes. Designated group discussion areas are available. Ask at the information desk for directions.

Search the KNLS Online Public Access Catalog.

How can I apply for job opportunities at KNLS?
