Book Time book giveaway was an event that was organized with an aim of strengthening the reading culture among children and promote learning among children below the age of 9 years. The project involved giving a total of 3,600 children books donated by Pearson Foundation through Book Aid International (BAI) for sharing with their family members and friends. Each child received 2 books, 2 book marks and a book bag. A total of 7200 books were given out to the school pupils.

The books received were worth around Kshs. 630,000 and the libraries that benefited were; Buru-Buru, Murang’a, Nyeri, Embu, Meru, Nakuru, Kericho, Kisumu, Kisii, Garissa, Wajir and Masalani. 

The event was independently organized in each of the 12 libraries with established children and teenager corners. Approximately 600 comprising 300 children, their parents and teachers were in attendance in each site.

This project was made possible through the assistance of Book Aid International, who raised the necessary funding to facilitate the project implementation. Knls acknowledges Book Aid International (BAI) as a key partner in increasing the literacy levels in our society, promoting the reading culture and empowering communities through powering their intellect. BAI donates about 50,000 books to Kenya through knls annually, which are further distributed to the knls libraries and other needy institutions in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding between knls and BAI.
