Narok is a town west of Nairobi that supports Kenya’s economy in the south west of the country along the Great Rift Valley. Narok is the District Capital of the Narok County and stands as the major centre of commerce in the district. According to the 1999 census, Narok County had a total population of 365,750 residents. Narok town is located South-West of the Country and has a population of 40,000 people who are mostly from the Maasai Community. The Maasai community have a very rich culture which is recognised worldwide and is celebrated by lots of people all over the world. They are largely a pastoralist community and their main mode of economic activity is livestock farming. The community have been experiencing challenges in accessing better education due to their long held traditional practices, pastoralism life and access to educational facilities. The construction of the library in Narok will be indeed a major contributor in knowledge building in their society.
